West Cork Literary Festival 2012

Denyse Woods - Festival Director

- REF:  West Cork Literary Festival

With the summer at its end, the 2012 West Cork Literary Festival is pottering off into the archives, and I think it’s fair to say that it can glance over its shoulder at a job well done. Great authors, stimulating discussions, new work by our aspiring authors – old and young – of a very high quality (according to our course tutors), excellent scones (on the LE Orla and at the Literary Team in the Maritime Hotel) and fairly manageable weather as well.

We would like to extend our very sincere thanks to the many authors who travelled from Ireland and abroad in order to sit down and have a bit of a chat with us booklovers, and warmest gratitude also to our extraordinary audiences for being so wonderfully welcoming to our speakers and for challenging them with well-thought out questions. As Sir Michael Parkinson said, ‘That was a good audience. They were on the ball.’ But then our speakers are always impressed by the West Cork crowd. It was gratifying to hear from so many of our guests – home-grown and international – how much they loved their time in Bantry. Indeed, many have asked to come back.

We would like to thank West Cork Music and the West Cork Literary Festival for inviting us to their key Live Events and working with us to produce the videos.  Also a special thank you to the staff at the Maritime Hotel for being so accommodating and understanding of our needs.  We look forward to the 2013 festival and many evenings of fun and craic over the 'Live Mic' into the early hours of the morning.
